Synopsis

Faced with an unwanted pregnancy, three individuals from different eras in Portugal struggle with the choices available to them and the true extent of their freedom to make these choices. In 1972, Clara seeks an illegal abortion during Portugal's dictatorship, confronting restrictive laws and conservative family expectations with the help of a friend and a midwife, and finding inner courage she never knew she had. In 2007, Joana, constrained by her family's poverty and her career hopes in London, heads to a clinic only to be met with judgment from a doctor unwilling to help. In 2022, Alex, navigating their non-binary identity, faces a complex decision about pregnancy with partner Daniel, unsure of what this choice means for them.
